Avian Influenza Outbreak

    The H5N1 bird flu is a highly infectious disease that affects the majority of wild birds, US poultry, and has/can even affect humans. It is one of the many self mutating diseases that can cause respiratory problems, body aches, fever, and pink eye. The H5N1 bird flu can mutate through genetic resorting and antigenic drift. Workers in contact with these animals are most at risk for contamination.

     In 2025, there have been at least 67 reported cases of H5N1 in the united states so far. This is becoming a serious issue because not only is it a health risk, but it is causing mass inflation on products related to it. For example, the department of agriculture has seen a rise of 20.3 percent increase in price for good such as milk, eggs, and some select meats. Any flu virus is good at changing or picking up a new mutation which can help aid the virus to find new ways to infect hosts.

     It is becoming imperative that we address this before it becomes more of an issue. These types of airborne diseases and viruses are most vile when it comes to our elderly. I’ve had many close calls with family members for simple sicknesses as such. This issue is going to continue to grow if it is not stopped. That would be up to us, the people. To ensure that this issue does not persist.
