Baitcasters or Spinning Reels are the way to go?

Do you like to fish? Me personally, I love to go fishing. It is one of my many hobbies and definitely one of my favorite things to do. I’ve gone fishing with family and friends in both freshwater and saltwater.  Each time I went out I had an absolute blast, even if sometimes I didn’t catch anything. As I got more into the sport, I learned a lot of cool tricks and important knowledge when it comes to frequently catching fish and not just praying for a bite.

The first fishing setup that I used was a spinning reel. It is able to open from the bill and you can control your casts with the spool, a way to learn to fish very easily. It is also the renown setup for beginner anglers. The first fishing I ever caught on this type of setup was a little bluegill. You can always count on those guys to bite when nothing else will. In the short passing of a few years I managed to catch a decent amount of bass, trout, catfish, saltwater fish, and of course the occasional bluegill.

On my salt water fishing trip, I used this setup as well. It was a nice big rod with a thick spinning reel. The reels bill style allowed me to drop my bait into deep water a lot faster than I would be able to on a baitcaster reel. I was able to change baits a lot faster with this setup than with my baitcaster setup. Personally I would recommend this style to anyone who wants to start their own fishing journey.

When it comes down to it, if you wanna do it, do it man. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know how to cast or know how to tie a lure. Watch a YouTube video it’s 2025 guys, we have the technology to do anything. One thing I am excited about is I will be going to see my grandmother for the Fourth of July and I will be bringing home all of my grandpas old fishing gear. Man does he have some old school stuff. All I know is that I’m gonna be fishing for the rest of my life and I will never regret it for a moment. Hopefully I’ll catch a new PB fish of whatever cause it’s all fun to me.

Check out this video for why all fisherman chase the PB!!!

  1. It's really cool that you'll inherit your grandpa's old equipment. I'm not much one for tradition, but I do appreciate hobbies being shared through generations. I've got a lot of good memories fishing with my father when I was young.

  2. My go to is always a good old spool type spinner! I'm more of a trout fisherman, and mostly fish rivers. Ive used a bait caster set up only once, while salmon fishing in Alaska. Ive always found the spool type to be easier and more efficient. Hopefully you catch some monsters over 4th of July weekend! Enjoy and cherish those old poles!
